Hi, my name is Mattzie Kay!
Although I've always been an avid reader and writer, it was only within the last few years that I began to seriously consider publishing the stories I've written.
During my research of the industry, I found it alarming how under-represented minorities are from the writers, to character representation in the stories. The vast selection of books, specifically children's picture books, available in major bookstores don't accurate identify or celebrate a mixture of cultures and races.
It was that discovery that solidified my decision to independently publish my stories. Why independently publish? Well, if your purpose is to make a real change, continuing to do things the same way they've always been done is not the solution.
With the books I write, I strive to expand diversity within the characters, allowing more children to relate to and see themselves in the stories. You will come to notice that I rarely give the characters a name. I don't want the reader to become so concerned with a character's name, that they fail to connect with the fact that they are the character, and the story is their story.
